Short description:

Among the white embroideries of the Rába region, which belong to this newer layer of our folk art, the embroidery of Hövej stands out with its special features. According to tradition, it was introduced to the village in the 1860s by a local girl, Borbála Horváth. The stitching elements of Höveji embroidery are madeira and chain stitching. The design consists of leafy branches and rosettes, which sometimes form a free composition of bush ornaments or bouquets. The specificity and uniqueness of Höveji lace is a distinctive and outstanding value. Its beauty and reputation, which is characteristic of Hungarian lace, is renowned throughout the world, and adds to the recognition of our country. Höveji lace with its uniqueness and distinctiveness, it is the crowning achievement of the Hungarian nation and deserves all recognition, preservation and protection.
