The institution of the  Committee for Hungarikums was established on the 18th of October in 2012,by the Act XXX of 2012 on Hungarian national values and Hungarikums.

The committee’s main role is to protect, maintain and make widely popular the national- and outstanding national values, furthermore the Hungarikums.

Members of the committee have to be delegated by the Hungarian Parliament, the Hungarian  StandingConference, the ministries of Hungary, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Hungarian Academy of Arts, the chairman of the National Office for Intellectual Property. The chairman of the committee is the minister in charge of agriculture.
