Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit

Short description:

The Order, as the only Hungarian-founded monastic order has been playing an important role in the history, culture and spiritual life of our nation for almost 800 years. It was formed in 1250 by Blessed Eusebius Canon of the Cathedral of Esztergom by uniting the recluses of Patacs Mountain and Pilis. The current centre of the Order is in the Polish Częstochowa, in the Jasna Góra Monastery, the seat of the Hungarian province is in Pécs. The churches, monasteries built by the Order, their works of art and literature are lasting treasures of the Hungarian culture. Regarding the history of the Hungarian language it is worth to mention two important medieval prayer books made by the Pauline monks: the Festetics and the Czech Codex.
