Bereg cross-stitch embroidery in the Upper Tisza region

Short description:

Perhaps the best known of the cross-stitch embroideries is the Bereg cross-stitch embroidery, which is known and loved beyond the borders of Hungary. Bereg cross-stitch embroidery is a characteristic embroidery technique of the Bereg region, and Bereg textiles have preserved an unparalleled wealth of motifs. The handicrafts have a wide variety of patterns, but the designs are always applied to the textiles in a uniform striped structure. The flowers usually form a continuous row in a tendril structure. Up to the 1930s, red and blue were the only colours used, after which multi-coloured dyeing became fashionable.
